Things to do and see in the Florida Keys and Key West and Marathon

Attractions in Marathon:

  • Pigeon Key: A Historic pioneer village. Only Seven (7) Miles South on an island in the middle of the Seven Mile Bridge. Great Safe place to go Roller Blading or Biking on the old bridge. See schools of tarpon and giant rays swimming below. Awesome sunsets from here.  One of my favorite places to visit with my family in Marathon.  No cars allowed on the old bridge.  VERY Important tip!  The parking lot for the old seven mile bridge is a very small lot just before the new seven mile bridge.  If you miss it it's a 16 mile round trip mistake.  Just enjoy the seven mile bridge going south and then back north and don't miss it again.
  • Marathon's Crane Point Hammock Museum: This unique 63-acre site is home to the Museum of Natural History, Children's Museum, Adderley Town Historic Site, Marathon Wild Bird Center and an extensive nature trail system that leads through a dense tropical forest to a spectacular view of Florida Bay. Just 4 miles away at mile marker 50.4. Great place to take the Kids on an over cast day.
  • Community Theater: Your ticket to great live theatre in the Middle Keys: since 1944!

On the way down from Mainland:

  • "The 100 Mile Dash To Paradise" - a mile-by-mile adventure guide
to some of the best bars, joints, tropical dives, tiki bars and hang-outs in The Florida Keys. Starting from the most northern point all the way down to Key West at Mile Marker "0".
  • The Theater of the Sea: (Mile Marker 84 Oceanside) Dolphin and Sea Lion shows daily! Stop here if you are early for our 3pm check in time.
  • Everglades National Park: Spanning the southern tip of the Florida peninsula and most of Florida Bay, Everglades National Park is the only subtropical preserve in North America.  Go West when you reach Florida City (just before entering the Keys).  Also a good thing to do if you are early for our 3pm check in time.  This tour should take about 4-5 hours to do everything.
  • Outdoor World: Mile Marker 83 Bayside - 81576 Overseas Hwy, Islamorada FL 33036, 305-664-4615:  The world's leading supplier of premium outdoor gear.  Also a great place to have lunch on a dock out back at The Islamorada Fish Company.
  • Fairchild Tropical Gardens: Perfect Palm Specimens, one of the best places to see Palms with the world!  This is in Miami.  If you are really interested in palms this is the place to be.
